WAYLAND: Howard H. Rice, 76, died peacefully and comfortably under the care of his family at his residence in Wayland on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 following a long period of declining health.
He was born in Hilltown, Nova Scotia, Canada on July 1, 1940 the son of the late Everett Rice and Laura (Mullen) Rice.
Howard is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Pamela W. (Phylis) Rice of Wayland. Beloved father of Jeffrey H. Rice and his wife Dianne L. Rice of Wayland and Kirk W. Rice and his wife Tammy L. Rice of Wayland. Cherished grandfather of Kayla Rice; Tyler Rice; Connor Rice and Bradley Rice all of Wayland. Brother of Viola Mackenzie and her husband Don Mackenzie of Nova Scotia Canada; Lennie Krause of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and Shermin Rice and his wife Anna Rice of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Howard has been a resident of Wayland for the past 52 years and previously resided in Hilltown, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was educated in Canada and came to the United States in 1961 and became an American citizen.
He had a long career as an Excavating Contractor and was the owner of H. Rice and Sons of Wayland. He was a hard working man and enjoyed woodcarving, deer hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities. He built a family home in Lakeville, Maine which he delighted in spending time there with his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends and his courageous battle with Parkinsons’ Disease. He was determined to live his life to the fullest.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Sudbury, 162 Landham Road, Sudbury.
Interment will follow in the Rice family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Howard’s memory be sent to the First Baptist Church of Sudbury.
