Obituary

James “Tiny” Brown, 81, of Pembroke, local business owner, philanthropist and automotive enthusiast passed away on July 27, 2016. Father to James M. Brown, II and his wife Susan of Halifax, Peter L. Brown and his wife Anne Svelnis of Pembroke, Edward Brown and his wife Sally of Middleboro, Theresa Brown and her husband Terry of VA, and Susan (Brown) Rossi and her husband Richard of Pembroke. Brother of Robert Brown and his wife Beverly of Randolph. He was grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 4.

Tiny and Sons, the business he started out of his home in 1978, has flourished into a thriving and respected leader by their generosity and good works in the community. In addition to his interest in automobiles, Tiny became a call firefighter in Pembroke. He continues to support the Pembroke Fire Department to this day. Tiny was also a proud member of the Armed Forces serving in Battery “C” of the 126th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion AW (SP) at Fort Drum, NY.

His involvement has been recognized by the many organizations that have benefitted from his goodwill including local youth sports teams, area hospitals, public service organizations and Chambers of Commerce. Awards include the 2012 Business of the Year Award from the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Tiny is known for saying that, “The South Shore has been good to me”, and Tiny Brown has been good to the South Shore. The Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth, Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth, the Talking Information Center (TIC), the Boy Scouts, and a wide variety of charitable organizations all owe a debt of gratitude to James “Tiny” Brown.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 1st from 4-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke. A funeral service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pembroke Council on Aging, 144 Center St, Pembroke, MA 02359.
