Obituary

Bernard F. Godbout, Sr. – 87, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Bernard F Godbout, of Methuen. Bernard passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Lawrence and was a resident of Methuen. He was the son of the late Fred and Mary (Moran) Godbout.
Bernard graduated from Central Catholic High School, prior to joining the United States Air Force. He spent his career working for the Bell System as a quality engineer.
Bernard was an active member of Saint Lucy’s Parish in Methuen and a Eucharistic Minister. He belonged to the Catholic Charismatic Community of God’s Light prayer group at Saint Basil’s in Methuen. He enjoyed volunteering at Saint Lucy’s pancake breakfast where he was known as the Saint of Pancakes. Bernard was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
His greatest joys were his children, beloved grandchildren, and family. Bernard was a caring and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His devotion and kindness will be remembered forever in our hearts.
He leaves behind his wife of 20 years Nancy Donohue Godbout, his son Bernard “Buddy” F. Godbout, Jr. and his wife Constance Troy Godbout of Atkinson, NH, his daughter Susan Godbout Strombosky of Westford MA, and his son Christopher Godbout and wife Melissa Gardella Godbout of Atkinson, NH. He leaves behind his precious grandchildren JJ and Nick Strombosky, Lauren Godbout Bergeron and her husband Adam Bergeron, and Mark and Jessica Godbout. He also leaves behind two beautiful great grandchildren Gabriel and Luca Bergeron. As well as several nieces and nephews. Bernard is predeceased by his former wife of 40 years Rita Buco Godbout, and a Brother the late Fred Godbout.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on July 31 from 4-8 p.m. at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Merrimack St, North Andover, MA 01845. Funeral services will take place on Monday August 1 at 11:00 at St Lucy’s Parish in Methuen. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
