Ollie Mae Jones-Johnson (Kelly) was born to Willie Ester Collins and Arthur (Frosty) Jones on June 17, 1930 in Minden Louisiana (Growing Valley).
Ollie’s first church was the Bright Star Baptist church in Growing Valley (Minden) Louisiana.
Ollie was educated in the Webster Parish school district. She graduated from High School in the Los Angeles school district from Jefferson High School. She continued her education graduating from Gaylord School of Nursing. Soon Ollie relocated to Oxnard California where she fulfilled her calling.
Ollie thoroughly enjoyed caring for others. Her love for other people kept her in the nursing field where she celebrated a very successful life long career. Taking care of the ill and tending to the needs of others was her passion.
Ollie being led by the Love of God was guided to Saint Paul Baptist Church (SPBC) where she and her two young children, Glenn and Edna united (318 West 7th Street) there she was welcomed with loving open arms. She continued there joining the SPBC choir where Praising and singing to the Glory of God was her passion.
Ollie Mae’s life in Oxnard was such a blessing; she enjoyed an insurmountable number of friends, some who were closer than others. Mr. JD Battles assisted Ollie in all of her endeavors. JD stuck by her side in everything that she accomplished. He was truly a rock in a weary land. Her pastor’s Jesse Walker, Hosea Edwards and Bishop B.A. Huggins all were a part of her life. They mentored, led and coached with the perils of living the Christian life while touching her very soul. Ollie participated in the Ruth Circle along with many other function of the SPBC.
Ollie was also a member of the popular local gospel group the “Gospel Stars” in Oxnard. They performed at various churches and events throughout Ventura County. Ollie really enjoyed singing for our Lord and Savior and would go wherever the choir would sing.
Ollie was preceded in death by her mother Willie E. Maxey-Collins and her beloved son Ezell Kelley JR.
She leaves to cherish her memories Glenn E. Anderson of Oxnard, Ca, (Tom) Edna Merlo of Oxnard, Ca, JD Battles of Oxnard, Ca. Grandchildren Carl King, Dashae King, Glenn Anderson II, Tomara Anderson and 24 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great grandchildren and a Host of Family and Friends.
