Obituary

Clayton “Joe” Josselyn, 88 of Hanson, MA passed away peacefully at home on July 26 after a brief illness.

Joe’s first love was his family. He was born in Brockton, Mass in 1927 and the only son of Charles C Josselyn and Alice (Fennell) Josselyn. He attended Whitman Public Schools. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Craig) Josselyn of 62 years, deceased 2009. He leaves behind 5 children, Joyce J Lawson of Whitman, Ellen J Roth of Bridgewater, Michael J Josselyn, and spouse Jennifer Josselyn of Hanson, Jeffrey J Josselyn and spouse Carolyn Josselyn of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Daniel J Josselyn and spouse Jeff Creighton of Toronto, ON. He also leaves 11 grandchildren Andrea, Rob, Brenna, Daniel, Dylan Roth, Shelby and Courtney Josselyn, and Ryan, Brandon, Colin, Matthew Josselyn. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren Samantha, Timothy Rumsey, Abel Litiff, Evi, Troy, and Eily Josselyn. Joe also leaves his very dear companion Anne Haskell, along with many relatives and friends.

Joe loved to make people laugh and had a very quick and sarcastic wit. He shared a love of the Red Sox with his wife Jean, and they also loved bowling and ran a bowling league at the Hanson Bowling Alley. Joe loved to play cards with his family and with friends. Cribbage, Poker, Whist, and Tripoli were a few of the games he enjoyed with family and friends on many nights.

Joe was a butcher for Walkey’s Food Center in Hanson until 1982 when he opened Joe’s Butcher Shop. After running his own butcher shop he continued to serve the people of Hanson as a butcher at Shaw’s Supermarket, often being referred to as the “Mayor of Hanson” and as their most trusted butcher. He was featured in the local Hanson paper as a trusted butcher and beloved resident of Hanson.

His funeral service will be held Saturday July 30 at 10:00 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Friday July 29 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
