FALL RIVER – Gilda “Peggy” Medeiros Souza, age 95, passed July 20, 2016 peacefully at home with family. Daughter of the late Mary and Manuel Medeiros, Peggy was married to the late John Souza, (the owner of Souza Bros. Market, So. Main St. Fall River, MA) in 1942. Loving mom to Marie Souza of West Greenwich, RI, the late John “Jr” Souza, Pat Maitoza, Pauline Emond, all of Fall River, MA, and Susan Mello of Somerset.
Peggy was raised on her parent’s livestock farm on Laurel St. from age 16-21. She was a Seamstress at Anderson Little, the Receptionist for her nephew Urban Medeiros at “Urban Elements”, formerly “Hairphenalia” for 11 years, “Gordan Cut Your Hair”, and for friend Michell Hill at “Michell’s Beauty Salon”.
Peggy loved traveling, shopping, spending time with her daughters, and making people laugh.
Survived by a great friend, her sister Gert Perry of Portsmouth, RI and brother Urban, the late Manuel, Frank, Johnny “Dig It” Medeiros and Angie Carvalho.
Peg has 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and many loved nieces & nephews.
Mother in law to Janice Souza, Arnold Souza, David “Beef” Mello, Norman Salwan, and Friend Irene Crocker.
