Gordon W. Eichholz, 94, of West Boylston passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 17th surrounded by his family in the Rose Monahan Hospice House.
His wife of 57 years, Marilyn A. (Gay) Eichholz died in 2004. He leaves two sons, Craig W. and his wife, Mary Eichholz, Steven G. Eichholz and his significant other, Diane Smollin of Princeton, MA; four grandchildren, Tara, Peter, Catherine and Karl; a brother, Douglas and his wife, Janet Eichholz of Holden, MA; his companion of 11 years, Lucelle Smith, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Mark D. Eichholz and his daughter, Lynne S. Haapakoski.
He was born in Worcester a son of William F. and Louise L. (Brenner) Eichholz and graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade School. Gordon served in the US Navy during WWII. He manned a 44-millimeter gun aboard the LST-377 as they transported troops, weapons, and supplies. He saw action in the North African and European Theatre.
Gordon was the shop foreman of the pattern department for 41 years for Norton Company, Machine Tool Division. He was a member of Lakeview Congregational Church, Colonial Bowling league, Boylston Masonic Lodge AF & AM, the West Boylston American Legion, the Worcester County Shriners and the Greendale Men’s Club. Gordon enjoyed riding motorcycles until the age of 90, and was a master woodworker and especially enjoyed large family outings.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, July 25 at 11:00 am in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church St. in West Boylston, MA. There are no calling hours.
