Obituary

EAST DENNIS-Edward J. McDermott, 82, of East Dennis died peacefully, July 21st, with his loving wife of 58 years Shirley T. (Guerin) McDermott, at his side. He leaves a son; James J. McDermott and his wife Nancy Parsons of Brentwood, CA, a daughter; Deirdre A. wife of Gary R. Desautels of Leicester,a granddaughter; Katelyn A. Desautels and 2 sisters; Sarah Mullaney of Worcester and Claire Girouard of Paxton. His son; Michael E. McDermott and 2 sisters; Winifred Higgins and Marie McGrath predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of James J. and Sarah G. (Kelley) McDermott and was a graduate of St. John’s High School. Mr. McDermott was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy, and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, as well as other awards. He worked for Massachusetts Electric for 38 years retiring in 1984, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Auburn, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and served on the Board of Directors for Worcester Central Federal Credit Union. Mr. McDermott was an avid golfer, reader, gardener and enjoyed traveling throughout the world.

The funeral is Monday, July 25th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM the day of the funeral.
