Walter Arthur Lawry, 90, of Evans, formerly of Valdosta, died in Evans Tuesday, July 19, 2016. He was born April 20, 1926, the son of Dr. Arthur A. and Jeanette (Everett) Lawry.
On June 1, 1946, in Georgetown, District of Columbia, he married Cameron (Knight) Lawry.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Lawry McGraw, his son, Arthur A. Lawry, and his great grandson, Jacob Miller.
LTC Lawry graduated from Gordon Military School and served in the US Navy during WWII. After his discharge he attended Mercer University graduating with a BS degree and with a commission in the US Army. His service included tours of duty in Germany (twice), Taiwan, and Thailand. After 20 years of service he retired in his hometown of Valdosta. After retirement he served as the Senior Army Instructor in the Junior ROTC Program at Hamilton (FL) County High School.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, and two daughters; Camie and husband Doug Braendel of Everett, PA, Jennifer and husband Ken Newlin of Cincinnati, OH, and daughter-in-law Jane Lawry. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 30, 2016.
