Obituary

De LUCA , Professor Carlo J. Pioneer in the fields of Electromyography and Biomedical Engineering, born in Bagnoli del Trigno (Italy), resident of Wellesley (MA) passed away July 20th, 2016 at the age of 72. He is survived by his beloved wife and business partner, Devi De Luca.

De Luca received his doctorate degree in 1972 from Queen’s University in Canada and began his career at the Liberty Mutual Research Center, servings as Project Director for over 20 years.

From 1974 to 1984 he was appointed to the faculties of MIT and Harvard Medical School where he founded the NeuroMuscular Research Laboratory. He then joined Boston University (Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Founder and Director of the NeuroMuscular Research Center, Research Professor of Neurology, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Professor of Physical Therapy). He served as Dean ad interim of the College of Engineering from 1986 to 1989 and in 2015 he was appointed Professor Emeritus of BU College of Engineering. Strongly committed to the practical translation of technology from the lab to the marketplace, Professor De Luca founded Delsys Inc., global leader in electromyographic sensors, where he served as its President and CEO since 1993.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Monday, July 25 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home, Sunday, July 24 from 3-6pm. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. Expressions of sympathy can be made by donation to the Dr. Rebecca Miksad Discretionary Fund at Beth Israel Medical Hospital in Boston.
