Herbert A. Ramsdell
Retired Downey Chevrolet Service Manager

TEWKSBURY: Herbert A. Ramsdell, of Tewksbury, 83 years old, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Hospital on the evening of Wednesday, July 20, 2016, with his family at his side.

He was born in Boston October 2, 1932, the son of the late William and Arsuthia Ramsdell.

Herb was a veteran of the US Army and of the Massachusetts National Guard (182nd Infantry Yankee Division).

He worked as a Chevrolet Service Manager retiring from Joe Downey Chevrolet in Canton MA in 2006.

Herb is a Past Master of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge of Tewksbury.

His biggest contribution was to the youth of Tewksbury and Lowell as the Scoutmaster of Troop 41 Boy Scouts of America Tewksbury and as a member of the First Baptist Church of Tewksbury.

He is survived by his wife Helen of 62 years of marriage; his two sons, Ken and his wife Tina, James and his wife Debra. Herb and Helen also have an adopted son the late Mark Speer and his wife Cindy; four grandchildren and two adopted grandchildren; James, William, Chad, Amanda, Joseph and Grace.
Herb is also survived by his extended family, which include hundreds of Scouts that will always see Herb as their second father.

Calling hours are Monday, July 25, from 4-8 p.m. (Masonic Service 7 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1500 Andover St., Rte. 133, Tewksbury. Interment will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1500 Andover St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
