Obituary

NATICK: Rosalie M. (Cammarano) Doherty, age 83, a longtime Natick resident, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Paul J. Doherty with whom she shared nearly 59 years of marriage.

Born in Cambridge, she was a daughter of the late Gaetano and Frances (Dennis) Cammarano. Rosalie graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, where she was the captain of the basketball team and loved horseback riding. She spent many summers in New York learning true Italian cooking from her beloved Aunt Louise, and training with the instructors of the Radio City Rockettes. Rosalie was then employed as a key-punch data entry clerk with Stone and Webster in Boston, where she met Paul. They married three years later.

The Dohertys lived briefly in Watertown prior to settling in Natick in 1960. Rosalie set about creating a home full of warmth, love and the ever present aroma of wonderfully prepared foods. She was a loving Mom, and was never happier than when her whole family gathered to share a holiday meal. In retirement with Paul they split their time between Deerfield Beach, Florida where Rosalie loved being by the ocean with family and friends; and Natick, where for many years they enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. They were blessed with a loving family and eight grandchildren.

She is survived by Paul; their three children, Michael J. Doherty and fiancée Patti Gearheart of Natick, Paul D. Doherty and his wife Tracey of Braintree, and Julie K. Doherty of Natick; grandchildren Amy Rose, Rachel, Giana, Davis, Kirsten, Nicholas, Dean, and Jamie; her sister, Barbara F. Balsama of Swampscott, two brothers, William Cammarano of FL, and Thomas Cammarano and his wife Gayle of FL; a brother-in-law, Rev. Henry Doherty of Dennis; and a sister-in-law, Marie Doherty of Watertown. She was predeceased by a brother, Paul Cammarano, and her stepmother, Rita (MacPhail) Cammarano.

Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Monday, July 25th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday 2 - 5PM. Donations in Rosalie’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001. (www.alzfdn.org)
