Obituary

James Winter (Jim) Reed, 87, of Wellesley, passed away on May 14, 2016, after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of 62 years of Dorothy (Tarrio) Reed. Jim was born in Worcester, MA, on July 27, 1928. He was the son of the late Horton W. and Ruth (Freeman) Reed. He was predeceased by his brother, Horton C. Reed.

Raised in Wellesley, Jim attended local schools, after which he attended Noble and Greenough School, Southern Arizona School (1947) and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1951). He was employed by the Borden Chemical Company and the John H. Graham Company, as a manufacturer’s representative covering New England and Northeastern Canada. He also served in the Yankee Division of the Army National Guard.

Jim was the loving father of Margaret R. Reed, John W. Reed and his partner Katherine Taylor, and Cynthia R. McReynolds and her husband John A. McReynolds, and the beloved grandfather of Keileigh A. and Ian J. McReynolds, and Erik and Erin Taylor. He also is survived by a large and extended group of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Jim’s greatest pleasures in life were his family, his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic and musical activities, animals, and Boston sports teams. For many years he coached and served on the Board of Directors for Wellesley Little League. He was a member of Eastern Dog Club and past president of the Airedale Terrier Club of New England. He also was a stamp collector and a member of the Waltham Stamp Club and the Cardinal Spellman Philatelic Museum at Regis College.

Jim was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Wellesley, where he served as an usher and was involved in many capital campaigns. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s (79 Denton Road, at the corner of Washington Street, Wellesley), on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jim’s memory may be made to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844, or to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 79 Denton Road, Wellesley, MA 02482.
