Maxine C. Drew Burgess
Longtime Member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church

TEWKSBURY: Maxine C. Drew Burgess, age 90, a longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

She was the beloved wife of Philip A. “Tippy” Burgess, with whom she celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on April 17, 2016, and the late Richard H. Drew, who passed away in 1985.

Born in Boston on December 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Weber and the late Margaret (Smith) Weber.

She attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1944.

Maxine was employed by the Honeywell-Bull Corporation in Billerica and later as a secretary by the Tewksbury Council on Aging until her retirement in 1994.

She was a member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years, and served on numerous boards committees. In addition, she assisted as a poll worker during the annual town elections and served as Warden of precinct 2A.

Maxine enjoyed the fellowship of her church community, assisting numerous charitable organizations, traveling with her family, spending the winter months in Florida, knitting, and attending family gatherings.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Richard Drew and his wife Nancy of West Yarmouth, Warren Drew and his wife Charlotte of Tewksbury, and David Drew and his wife Jana of The Woodlands, TX; her former son-in-law, John Holland and his wife Rondi of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Dorothy Drew of Texas; bother-in-law, Alan Drew of Vermont; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Maxine was the mother of the late Margaret I. Holland.

Calling hours are Sunday, July 24, from 2-6 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, cor. of Main & South Sts. Interment to follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
