Obituary

Edward G. Seibert, born May 13, 1924, passed away surrounded by his family on July 17th. Beloved husband of Dorothy K. (Connolly) Seibert for 68 years. Son of Gertrude and Chester Seibert (deceased) of Hyde Park and the Ritz Carlton Hotel Boston. Brother of Mickey Robertie (deceased) of Plymouth, NH and Florida. He leaves three sons, Richard C. Seibert and wife Kate, Kingston, MA, Michael E. Seibert and wife Gayle, Franklin, MA and Gregg R. Seibert and wife Barbara of Lakeville, MA along with 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Hyde Park High in 1942, served in the WWII in combat as a tank commander in the 16th Cavalry Group in Germany in 1944/45. Longtime member and Treasurer of the 16th Cavalry Association, worked for the New York Central Railroad for ten years 1948-1958 and for Thomas Cook & Sons for 10 years, 1958-1968.

Ed was the former Vice President of the South Shore National Bank in Quincy in charge of travel from 1968-1973. Founder & Chief Operations Officer/President of Quinwell Travel Service of Wellesley, Quincy & Whitman, 1973-1995.Past President of the Boston Skal Club, active as a member of Randolph Kiwanis Club for 10 years. Among his many accomplishments: he led a 99 persons tour of Americans to Moscow to witness the Canadian USSR Hockey competition in 1972, which was a breakthrough in International relations for its time; rented entire motel in Malone, NY for the 1980, Olympics for over 400 people and had the fortune to be in in attendance at the Miracle on Ice at the Lake Placid, hockey game USA vs USSR, won by the USA. The stadium held only 8,000 on lookers. Another highlight of his life in 1941 was when his father took him to the Boston College vs Tennessee Sugar Bowl football game, won by BC 21-13 when he was a sophomore in high school. This started a love for, Boston College football. Later in life he was fortunate to handle the BC Alumni Association away football games which he attended with his wife Dorothy. He was very proud to be a world traveler and that he and his wife Dorothy were able to travel on business and pleasure to the 4 corners of the earth, over 120 different countries on land and sea, including over 67 ocean crossings and cruises. While on a portion of a World Cruise in 1979 on Canards Lines Ship, the Queen Elizabeth, the Seiberts were among the passengers allowed to have visited Darien, China, which was then restricted to all foreigners. This was a first and opened up Communist China for future travel for the United States and other nations.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday July 21st at 9:45AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 20th from 4:00-7:00PM.
