Obituary


Charles W. Shannon, 78, of Franklin, died July 14, at his home. He was the husband of Therese (Caracciolo) Shannon.

Born in Boston, MA, June 5, 1938, the son of the late Julia Shannon. Charlie was raised in Norwood, MA and had lived in Canton and Norwood, MA before moving to Franklin, MA for the past 52 years.

He was a graduate of Norwood High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, baseball, basketball, hockey and track. He attended Dean College.

Charlie worked for Honeywell Corp. as a Computer Operations Manager. He was in charge of all three shifts, Charlie made sure he met with each shift every day. After leaving Honeywell, he worked at several different golf courses, which he enjoyed immensely.

Charlie enjoyed golf, reading many different authors, traveling and of course family get-togethers.

He was a founding member of the Franklin Chargers Program and Franklin Gridiron Club.

Charlie coached Pop Warner Football for the towns of Franklin, Bellingham and Norfolk. He enjoyed working with boys ages 12 - 14 for over 20 years.

Charlie served in the Air Force during the late 1950’s and while in the service, he played semi-pro football.

He was a Eucharistic Minister and assisted at funeral Masses in St. Mary’s Church in Franklin.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michele T. Gervais, and son-in-law, Normand of Sandwich, MA; Timothy C. Shannon and daughter-in-law, Ann of Lewiston, ME; Lisa A. Flaherty and son-in-law John of Wrentham, MA; Gregory F. Shannon and daughter-in-law, Karen of Bellingham, MA. and step-daughter, Ann M. Stockum of Akron, OH. He was predeceased by his daughter, Eileen C. Shannon.
Charlie was “Papa” to 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with another one expected in August.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 19 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00.

His calling hours will be held on Monday, July 18, from 5 – 8 p.m.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin, MA.
