Obituary

NATICK: Sheila M. (Hayes) Cashman, age 81, died peacefully at her longtime Natick home on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She and her late husband, Robert F. Cashman, had shared 39 years of marriage.

Born, raised, and educated in County Galway, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Cavanaugh) Hayes. Sheila was 18 when she left her home in Ireland to join her eldest sister, Mary, in Framingham. While working at the rectory of Saint Stephen’s Church, Sheila met Bob and the two were wed in 1959.

The Cashmans settled in Natick, where Sheila set about creating a warm and nurturing home for their growing family. She was an active parishioner and frequent volunteer at Saint Patrick’s Church, worked the polls in Natick for many years, and enjoyed assisting at Bingo nights for the Church. She was an enthusiastic card player and loved nothing more than putting on a large dinner for family and friends. An attentive and loving mother, Sheila found being a grandmother the greatest joy of all.

Predeceased by Bob in 1998, she is survived by their four daughters, Karen J. Przybyl and her husband Greg of Tewksbury, and Linda L. Young and her husband Robert, Lori A. Clooney and her husband Stephen, and Dawn M. Lalime and her husband Andrew, all of Natick; three grandchildren, Sean Young, Katherine Clooney, and Robert Lalime; five sisters, Mary Murphy of East Sandwich, Catherine Burke and her husband Jimmy of Co. Galway, Winifred “Una” Hayes of Dorchester, Bridget “Dee” Gibbon and her husband Ken of Boscawen, NH, and Eileen Shaughnessy of Co. Galway; a brother, Patrick Hayes of Co. Galway; three sisters-in-law, Mary Hayes of Westwood, Ruthann Cashman of Holliston and Marilou Cashman of Natick; and a great number of nieces, nephews, and their families. She was also the sister of the late Anne Phillips and John, Michael, and Martin Hayes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, on Monday, July 18th at 10:00A.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Sunday 2 – 5PM. Donations made in Sheila’s memory to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445 would be much appreciated.
