Mr. Edward P. Cavanaugh, of Salem, NH and a former Wilmington resident for over 55 years passed away peacefully, July 12, 2016, following a period of declining health. He was 95 years of age. Ed was the beloved husband for 65 years of Margaret M. (Harrington). Born in Quincy he was the son of the late James and Mary (Corrigan) Cavanaugh.
Ed attended Boston Schools and received his degree in engineering from the Lowell Technical Institute. Ed was a proud U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII and honorably served from 1941 to 1945. He worked for many years prior to his retirement as a civil engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Following his retirement from the Commonwealth he continued to work for a number of years as a consultant for the Town of Wilmington Highway Department. Ed was always keeping busy and enjoyed puttering around at his home and he especially enjoyed spending time at his home on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. When he was a younger man he enjoyed swimming and later he enjoyed boating at the lake. His greatest joy was his family, and nothing made him happier than when the family was spending time together by the lake.
In addition to his beloved wife Margaret, He is survived by his devoted children, Patricia Boisvert and her husband Carl of Litchfield, NH, James Cavanaugh and his wife Judee of Derry, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Katlyn J., Kelley J. and James E. Cavanaugh. Loving great grandfather of Deklan and Harry. Brother of the late James Cavanaugh.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Saturday, July 16th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home will be held from from 3 thru 7 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
