Mildred E. (O'Donnell) Vayo, 92, of Worcester, died Monday, July 11th in UMass Hospital. Her husband of 72 years, Charles L. Vayo died last year. She is survived by four daughters, Betty Owens and her husband, Mike of Auburn, Judy Wheelden and her partner, Paul Anderson of West Yarmouth, Diane Hagen of Framingham and Sharon Williams and her husband, David of Garland, TX; four grandchildren, Patrick Owens and his wife Cathy, Michelle Owens, Christopher Wheelden and Heather Ferguson and her husband, Brian; four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Michael, Connor and Nathan. She also is survived by brothers-in law, Robert Vayo of Auburn and Robert Sofie of Yarmouthport; two sisters-in-law, Norma Candela of Worcester and Jean Vayo of Sterling. Two sisters, Phyllis Sofie and Rita Lemoine predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Leonard and Mary Gladys (Mitchener) O'Donnell. Mildred had worked for Dr. George Fanning as his receptionist for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Auburn, enjoyed BINGO, reading, gardening, trips to the Cape and Florida, but especially enjoyed time spent with her family.
Her funeral is Monday, July 18th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Bourne National Cemetery. A visitation hour will be held from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
