Obituary

LOWELL—Mary A. McCartin, 87 years old, a lifelong resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died Monday evening at D’Youville Senior Care, after an extended illness.

She was born in Lowell, on July 29, 1917, a daughter of the late Frank P. and Margaret A. (Walsh) McCartin. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Immaculate Conception High School, and D’Youville College, in Buffalo, NY. She received a degree in Accounting from Bentley College.

Miss McCartin had been employed as the Secretary Treasurer of the Frank P. McCartin Company, in Lowell, for over 35 years. She was also a teacher at Lowell High School.

She was a lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and held membership in Holy Rosary Sodality of that parish, the Third Order of St. Francis, the Catholic College Club, and the D’Youville College Club. She was a Board Member of Thomas More College, and Magdalene College. For many years, she served as a CCD Teacher for St. Anthony’s Church, in Lowell.

Surviving her are five brothers and one sister: Rev. Francis P. McCartin, OMI, of Tewksbury; Margaret M. Teague, of Westford; Philip C., and his wife Mary Ann McCartin, of Osterville; Paul C., and his wife Betty Jean McCartin, of Ashville, NC; Dr. Lawrence, and his wife Mary Joy McCartin, of Lowell; and Norbert T., and his wife Patricia McCartin, of Dracut; sisters-in-law: Jeanne McCartin, of North Fort Myers, FL; Gloria McCartin, of Irvine, CA; and Frances McCartin, of Lowell; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was the sister of the late James J. McCartin, Rev. Joseph T. McCartin, OMI, Robert A. McCartin, William T. ‘Spike’ McCartin, Anne E. Loughran, and John P. McCartin.

Friends may call at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38) from 4 until 8 PM on Friday, July 22nd. Her Funeral Mass to be offered Saturday July 23rd, at 10 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Oblate Infirmary Fund; P.O.
