Paul F. Norton 85, of Cumberland, Rhode Island formerly of Norfolk, died July 12 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Gaulin) Norton.
Born in Boston, January 28, 1931, the son of the late Paul and Sadie (Dewey) Norton, Mr. Norton was raised and lived in South Boston for many years before moving to Walpole in 1965. He had lived in Walpole until moving to Norfolk in 1977 where he lived for more than 20 years. In 2014 he moved to his son’s home in Cumberland.
Mr. Norton had been a decorated member of the Boston Police department for 31 years before retiring. He had previously worked as a prison guard at Deer Island.
Mr. Norton served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Paul had been a member of the Boston Policeman’s Benevolent Society and the NRA.
He enjoyed fixing electronic appliances and doing carpentry projects at his home.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph Norton of Norwood, Donald Norton of Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Paul Norton of Charlestown, New Hampshire.
He was the father of the late Michael Norton and Catherine Donahue.
He is also survived by his sister Barbara Norton of Chelmsford and Donald Norton of West Roxbury. He was the brother of the late William Norton.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 16 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 9:00 followed by a funeral mass in St. Jude’s Church, Norfolk at 10:00. Burial will be private.
