Obituary

James E. Doherty, Jr. A lifelong resident of Lawrence, Died July 12, 2016 at the Lawrence General Hospital after a long struggle with heart disease. He was surrounded by his family.
Son of the late James & Emily Doherty, A graduate of Lawrence High School. He entered the USMC at 17 and served in World War II and the Cold War. Also Graduated from the USMC Field Music School and was an accomplished Bugler and Drummer. He served at the US Delegation at Peking China where he taught music to the local residents. He earned the World War II, China Service and Cold War metal. He was severely injured on the Island of Guam and returned home to his family in Lawrence.
He worked for 30 years for the City of Lawrence Water Department retiring in 1992. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his dearly loved family, reading and was an avid computer enthusiast. He was a member of the Marine Corps Association, The China Marines and a former of the Marine Corps League.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Mildred Doherty of Lawrence, a son James E. Doherty, III of Lawrence, and a sister Mrs. Diane Dickson of Exeter, NH.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 12:00PM. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
