NORTON — Russell W. Costa, age 93 years, of Norton and formerly of Dartmouth, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at Wingate of Norton.
The husband of the late Dorothy F. (Wilcox) Costa, he was born in New Bedford, son of the late Ernest and Esther (Johnson) Costa and lived in Dartmouth most of his life.
An active member of Grace Epsicopal Church, he formerly worked as purchasing agent for Schmidt Manufacturing and retired as Town Assessor of Dartmouth.
A veteran of the Army in World War II, serving in the Philippines, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon and the victory medal. Russell was a member of the American Legion Post #307, the DAV Dr. C.E. Burt Post #7 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #09059. He was also a member of Quitticus Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughters Lynda D. Tyler, Carol Lee Costa-Crowell, Rita A. Augustine and Elizabeth J. Magiera, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Robert A. Costa, Malcolm Costa and Betty Ann Costa.
His funeral will take place on Friday, July 15th at 11 AM in Grace Church Chapel, County and School Sts., New Bedford, followed by burial in Rural Cemetery with military honors. Remembrances may be made to the church memorial fund at 133 School St., New Bedford, MA 02740
