SHIRLEY JANE FALLON
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Jane Fallon on July 6, 2016. Shirley was the mother of five sons; Jeffrey Robert, Stephen John and his wife Karen, David William (deceased), Peter Edward and his wife Prudence and Daniel Paul and his wife Jill. She leaves her husband Robert Edward Fallon to whom she was married for 64 years. Shirley also leaves behind her 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Shirley was born in New Jersey in 1930 to Reinhold and Miriam Hakewessell. She leaves behind her brother, Phillip and his wife Rosalie and their family, who live in Sepulveda, California.
Shirley attended the University of Vermont and was a member of the class of 1952. She met her husband, Robert, at UVM and they began raising their sons in Albany, New York in 1953. In 1957 the family moved briefly to Wellesley, Massachusetts and returned to Delmar, New York in ‘58. In 1974, after some of their sons were grown, the family settled in Duxbury, Massachusetts where they live today.
Shirley was always a homemaker for the family but led an active life outside the home. She was a world-wide traveler for both pleasure and with her choir, the Weymouth Fine Arts Chorale. Shirley loved animals and raised many litters of pure-bred Labrador retrievers while living in Duxbury. She loved cats and she leaves behind her two cherished cats; Franny and Zoey. Shirley was an accomplished musician and played the piano and sung for more the sixty consecutive years in various choral groups.
Shirley was a sportswoman and enjoyed tennis, swimming, skiing, and golf. She enjoyed most of these sports into her 80’s and played her last round of golf less two weeks ago. Shirley played competitive tennis on the Kingsbury Tennis Club (formerly Pilgrim) women’s team.
Shirley was a great lover of the Arts in all forms and was a staunch supporter of the work of her son, Jeffrey, a talented painter.
Shirley loved working on her home in Duxbury where spent many hours in the gardens which she adored and took great pride.
We also want to acknowledge, in particular, our very dear friend, Doctor Chris Diamandis, for dedicating so much of his time to our family. Our heartfelt thanks to the New England Baptist Hospital
