Obituary

Joseph Hilario Camara died on Friday, July 08, 2016 at Catholic Memorial Home just before his 95th birthday. He was the husband of the late Mary (Rocha) Camara and the son of the late John and Maria (Sebastiao Arruda) Hilario Camara. Born in Fall River, he had lived in Somerset for many years.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre. Upon returning from the war, he was the sexton at St. Michael’s Church in Fall River. He later ran his own home delivery business of baked goods, where he was commonly known as Joe the Baker. Later he was employed by the maintenance department at the Somerset Police Department. He was a member of the Somerset AmVets, a member of St. John of God Church serving as an usher for many years, a member of the Holy Name Society and recipient of the Marian Medal.

He is survived by a son, Leonard (wife Sandra) of Somerset and a daughter Elizabeth Elizardo of North Dighton. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Christopher, Rebecca and Mary Kate Camara, and Gregory and Bethany Elizardo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: John Camara, Manuel Hilario, Edward Camara, Alfred Camara, Mary Parr, Christina Rego, Helen Estrella, Belmira Souza, Francelina Medeiros, Diamentina Camara, Alice Fonseca, and Elsie Carreiro.

His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River Monday at 9:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church at 10:00 A.M.
