SPENCER: Thelma G. (Cormey) Travers, 96, of Maple Street died Wednesday, July 6 in Overlook Masonic Home, Charlton.
Her husband, Joseph H. Travers died in 1965. She leaves a son Terry A. Travers of Spencer, a granddaughter Sarah Travers and her husband David Citron of Brooklyn, CT, four great-grandchildren Jared Sheldon and Nicholas Sheldon of Danielson, CT: Ethan Sheldon and Samantha Sheldon of Brooklyn, CT. She also leaves brothers Wesley Cormey and Wayne Cormey of NJ and a sister Marilyn McGuirk of Charlton as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers; Wendell, Donald and Sherwood Cormey and a sister Shirley Dragon.
Thelma was born in Haverhill, daughter of Garfield and Stella (Fowler) Cormey. She was a dental assistant for many years at Dr. Davish & Dr. Gallagher's office in Worcester and also at Dr. Martel's office in Holden retiring in 1975. She worked part time at Steinert's Music Store in Worcester. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Spencer. She played professional keyboard in area nursing homes for many years. She was an avid golfer and former member of Hillcrest Country Club where she won 2 ladies championships. She worked tirelessly for 40 years as an Avon representative until being stricken at the age of 87.
