Edward A. Lonergan, PPD, ret., 87, of Sherman Farm Road, Harrisville, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of the late Regina T. “Jean” (Robertston) Lonergan.
Born in Warwick, he was a son of the late Anthony and Florence (Thomas) Lonergan. He lived in Burrillville since 1974 and had previously lived in Providence. He was a member of the 12th Police Academy in 1954. He retired from the Providence Police Department as a detective after 25 years of service. He was later employed by the Capitol Police for 13 years working at Superior Court in Providence. During both careers, he also worked part time at Zavota Bros. and Hallamore.
He served in the Army during the Korea Conflict.
He is survived by his children: Richard M. Lonergan and his wife, Liz, of East Greenwich, Kevin E. Lonergan, PFD, ret. and Jean Geer of Scituate and Linda Thompson and her husband, Dean of Sarasota, FL and six granddaughters: Caitlin, Elisha, Erin, Carolyn, Brooke and Kelsey. He was the twin brother of the late Irving Lonergan.
His Funeral Service will be held Monday at 11am in Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
