Obituary

Hart, Marshall Arthur, Sr., 97, passed away on July 6, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury, Massachusetts following a short illness. He was born on October 21, 1918 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Alice (Conroy) Hart and Franklin Gray Hart. Marshall grew up in Albany where he graduated from Albany High School. He lived in Vermont and New Hampshire and was a longtime resident of Springfield, MA and Boynton Beach, FL. Marshall served in the US Army in the South Pacific during WWII under Gen. MacArthur. He was a branch manager at Beneficial Finance Company, serving primarily in Holyoke, for 27 years. Marshall followed this with a banking career culminating in his role as Assistant Treasurer of Peoples Savings Bank. He was the Founder and President of Hart Adjustment Bureau of Holyoke and later Springfield, MA. Marshall was very active in the Holyoke, Chicopee and Springfield Chambers of Commerce and a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Springfield and Holyoke Rotary Clubs, and the Fireball Club. He was an Eagle Scout as well as the Cub Scout Master of Pack 54. Marshall was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer among other duties. He had a passion for travel, movies, photography, and singing. Marshall was survived by his loving wife Virginia (Gunn) Hart, formerly of Springfield, MA, sons Marshall, Jr. (and wife Joyce of Danville, California, and children Sharon, Christine, Deborah and Kelly), David (and his wife Wendy of Somerville, SC and children Allisyn and Michael), Bruce (and wife Yvonne of Chestnut Hill, MA, and children Christopher, Colby and Elspeth), and James (and his wife Linda of Chicopee, MA and children Matthew and Melissa). He also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, former colleagues and friends. Marshall is predeceased by his adoring wife of 55 years Eleanor Mae (McNabb) Hart and is the last of the “greatest generation” of the Harts, Carneys, McNabbs, Dineens, and Treheys. A memorial service will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Avenue in Springfield, MA.
