Robert E. Dickson of West Yarmouth, MA, formerly of Los Angeles, CA passed away at the Cape Cod Hospital, one month short of his 97th birthday. Robert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest of six children. His
family settled in the Los Angeles area when he was a young child. Robert helped run the family business, but later pursued a different path in life. His unique character, spirited manner and extraordinary drive to succeed led him to complete Dale Carnegie’s Leadership Development & Sales Effectiveness Program. Soon after, Robert established a successful Real Estate Business. Early in life, he decided to pursue a healthy lifestyle. In the 1940’s, before it became fashionable, Robert was making spinach, carrot, celery and kale juices at home on a daily basis. He expounded the benefits to everyone he could. In addition, he set up a complete gym in a converted garage, and particularly enjoyed weight lifting and practiced Judo. Robert loved to sing, especially opera. He took singing lessons and was heard practicing regularly by everyone. He loved cars, Cadillacs best of all. A road trip was always a delight. He was President of the North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. He later led the passage of California’s controversial Real Estate Proposition 13. Son of the late George Alexander Dickson and Ellen (Hancock). Beloved husband of Gilberte (Jill) (Cartillier), Step-father of Steven Blanchard and Carol Blanchard-Schaffer and her husband Robert. Proud grandfather of Nathaniel Schaffer. Uncle to Lori Liautaud, Melanie Rohfeld, Barbara Lyman, Jean Flood and Louise Bliss. Brother of the late George Dickson Jr., Musetta Small, Viola Raquet, Virginia Torres and Grace Mills.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home at 10:30 on Friday, July 8. Luncheon will follow at the home of Carol & Bob Schaffer at 285 York Street in Canton, Massachusetts, 02021.
