Roy Arowood, 71, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2016, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Allen Arowood and Pastor Kenny W. Griffin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Arowood was born June 26, 1945, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Daniel Roscoe & Arva Alice Rutland Arowood. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Arowood was a graduate of the Police Academy at ABAC in Tifton. He was a police officer with the Fitzgerald Police Department and a deputy with the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff John Hughes. He later worked as a welder at Kelly Manufacturing in Tifton and Haulmark in Fitzgerald. Mr. Arowood loved to fish and enjoyed woodworking, especially rebuilding furniture. He attended Cornerstone Church in Pearson. Mr. Arowood was a fervent prayer warrior and kept a “Prayer Book”, writing down names of those in need of prayer.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Reeves Arowood of Fitzgerald; a son, Rev. Allen Arowood of Ocilla; a daughter, Candice Lynn McDaniel and her husband Larry of Fitzgerald; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Roscoe Arowood of Blackshear. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Arowood and an infant brother; and five sisters: Lillie Luke, Della Taylor, Eva Edge, Pearl Bagwell, and Mary Arowood.
