Hudson, MA


Leonard G. Cushman, 84, of Wilton, NH, former longtime resident of Hudson, MA, died Sunday July 3rd surrounded by his loving family at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.

Leonard was the beloved husband of 61 years to the late Phyllis M. (Backhoff) Cushman who died in 2014. He leaves his four children, Linda Raymond and her husband Joseph of Wilton, NH, Charles Cushman and his wife Crystal of Rockhill, SC, Kathryn Cushman of Hollis, ME and Phillip Cushman of Oak Harbor, WA. He is also survived by his four loving grandchildren, Alex Cushman of Smyrna, TN, Garrett Cushman of Murfressboro, TN, Amy DeCiero of Webster, MA, Brian DeCiero of Lancaster, MA along with his three step-sisters and 2 step-brothers.

Leonard was born in Lynn, MA, son of the late Elmer and Angeline (Castonia) Cushman. He was raised in Dover-Foxcroft, ME where he attended local schools. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. States Navy until being honorably discharged in 1954. He resided in Hudson, MA since 1965 until most recently moving to Wilton, NH in 2014. He spent 35 years as an Electrical Engineer with the Raytheon Co. until his retirement. Following his retirement he enjoyed teaching woodworking at the Hudson Youth Center; he was Cub Master for the Hudson Boy Scouts, Pac 3 for 40 plus years; he was a former member of Christ the King Parish in Hudson and member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Leonard had many interests throughout his life but woodworking was his passion. He enjoyed collecting Native American memorabilia and truly enjoyed his association with the Cub Scouts. Most of all he looked forward to spending time with his family, especially later with his grandchildren. He cherished his 61 years of marriage to his wife Phyllis and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

A funeral service and celebration of Leonard’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9th at 12:00 noon in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com). Burial services will be held privately at a later date in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the funeral home prior to the service.
