Mildred Montine Kitchings Lindsey, 93, of Tifton passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., July 8, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Steve Tucker and the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Mrs. Lindsey will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jack Douglas, Terry Nichols, Ricky Fletcher, Milton Rousey, Troy Tapp and Tim Gray will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cleo McAllister Sunday school class at Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton.
Born December 1, 1922 in Irwin County, Mrs. Lindsey was the daughter of the late John Wiley Kitchings and Mary Ethel Spurlock Kitchings. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Curtis Edward Lindsey, Sr., who died April 2, 2008; and two sisters, Hattie K. Snead and Bessie K. Wade. She worked at Belk-Mathews from 1960-1975 in Macon. In her time there, she became a buyer for the store and went to Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina and New York. Later, she became department manager of women’s and children’s clothing. During World War II, she worked at the Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island and at the Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Macon. She moved to Tifton in 1975, where she was a homemaker and became a member of Liberty Baptist Church in 1983.
Mrs. Lindsey is survived by one son, Curtis Edward Lindsey, Jr. of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Beth Lindsey Holloway and husband, Jeff of Tifton; three grandchildren, Ryan Lindsey and Shawn Lindsey, both of Tifton and Kenny Lindsey of California; one great-grandchild, Kristen Lynn Lindsey of Warner Robins; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, H. T. and Carolyn Lindsey of Yulee, Florida; a niece, Karen Wade of Cottonwood, Alabama; three nephews, Carl Wade of Marianna, Florida, Steve and Beth Lindsey of Palm Bay, Florida and Chris and Barbara Lindsey of Lynchburg, Virginia; and several cousins.
