Maryalyce R. (Rehm) Norris, of North Conway, NH and Ft. Myers, FL formerly of Winchester, died suddenly June 30th at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, NH. She was the beloved wife of Richard F. “Dick” Norris Sr.
Maryalyce was a longtime resident of Winchester, where she graduated with the Winchester High School Class of 1954 and was a class officer and cheerleader. After graduating, she continued her education at the University of Maryland and received a degree in education and was an active member in the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Ms. Norris furthered her education at Boston University, earning a Master’s degree in Audio and Visual Education.
Her teaching career began in the Winchester Public Schools in 1962 as a substitute teacher in all of the town’s elementary schools. She soon became a full-time teacher and held positions at Noonan, Lynch and Lincoln Elementary Schools before retiring in 1985.
In her spare time, Mrs. Norris volunteered as a member of the Winton Club, the Friends of Winchester Hospital and was active with the William Parkman Lodge of Masons, Boston Commandry and the Shriners Aleppo Temple women’s auxillary.
After retiring, Mary and Dick split their time between the mountains of New Hampshire and the beaches of Fort Myers, FL. She loved skiing, hiking, the beach, a good book and sewing. She continued to substitute both in North Conway and Lee County, FL, where she had just finished the school year last month. She will be missed by her students and colleagues in Lee County who were deeply saddened to hear of her sudden passing.
Besides her husband, Dick, Mary is further survived by her children: Sheryl Norris of Malden, Richard “Rick” Norris, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Stephen Norris of Titusville, FL. She was the devoted grandmother of Peter, Kyle, Ryan, Michael, Chad, and the late Patrick Norris. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Thurs., July 7 from 5-8PM. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 8th at 12:30PM, followed by interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
