Hilda M. (Hermort) Baptista, 82, of New Bedford died Wednesday June 29, 2016 suddenly at home.
Born in Freetown, the daughter of the late Michael and Annie (Dutra) Hermort, she lived in New Bedford and Illinois for many years.
Mrs. Baptista was formerly employed as a certified nursing assistant at Hallmark Nursing Home for 21 years.
She was a doting grandmother, who was a very giving and caring individual. She loved spending time with her family and at Sunday dinners. She enjoyed going to casinos.
Survivors include a son, John Baptista of New Bedford; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Michael Baptista and Brenda Souto, grandmother of the late Keith M. Baptista, and sister of the late Elsie Waddington, Eva Rousseau, Alice Wade, Isabelle Williston, Natalie Rice, Edwin Hermort, and Michael Hermort.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 4-6 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Interment will be private.
