Gerald “Gerry” A. Newell, 79, of Franklin died July 1 in the Medway Country Manor. He was the husband of Mary C. (Milley) Newell, with whom he would have been married to for 60 years this month.
Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, March 22, 1937, the son of the late Jordan and Myrtle (Morrison) Newell, Mr. Newell was raised in Glace Bay and had lived in Franklin since 1961.
Gerry had been a deliveryman for Keigan Chevrolet in Franklin for several years. He had previously worked as a machine operator for the Denison Corporation and prior to that he had been a coal miner in Canada for 11 years for the Deveu Corporation.
Gerry was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and enjoyed camping and boating. He was proud of always having his car in spotless condition.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Gerald E. Newell of Douglas, Allan E. Newell and his wife Patricia of Cumberland, R.I. and Joseph W. Newell and his fiancé Kris of Franklin.
He is also survived by his brothers Allan Newell and his wife Dorothy of London, Ontario and Andrew Newell and his wife Marilyn of Glace Bay.
Gerry is also survived by his granddaughters Cassandra and Christina Newell.
He was the uncle of the late Myrtle Ann Newell.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be private.
