AZNAVOORIAN, David E. of Winthrop, June 30, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara M. (Swanson) Aznavoorian. Devoted father of Michael W. Swanson and his wife Andrea of Rowley, Thomas A. Swanson and his wife Joan of Saugus, David C. Aznavoorian and his wife Irene of Tewksbury, and Dr. Sadie A. Cheshire and her husband Dr. L. Bryan Cheshire of Shrewsbury.  Adored grandfather of Michael and Meredith Swanson of Saugus, Ashley and Courtney Aznavoorian of Woburn, Haley and David Aznavoorian of Tewksbury. Dear brother of Charles D. Aznavoorian of Medford. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, on Weds, July 6, at 9am. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop, at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will take place in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Tues, July 5, from 4-7pm. David was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1944-1946. He served with distinction as a combat marine during the Battle of Okinawa aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La, and was a member of the US Marine Occupation Force on the Japanese mainland at the naval base at Yokosuka.  David was a graduate of Boston College where he starred as a member of the football team. After graduation from Boston College, David attended Northeastern Law School prior to starting his career as a Civil Engineer with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, where he worked for 63 years.  David was a talented artist and an avid fan of thoroughbred horseracing. During his basic training as a marine recruit at Parris Island, South Carolina, David acquired an appreciation for country music, which he enjoyed for the rest of his life. He also enjoyed traveling to the casinos with his wife, Barbara.  However, the most important thing in his life was his family. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he was a role model for every member of his family. David was devoted to his brother Charles. He will be greatly missed by every member of his extended family and his many friends and colleagues.  David was a member of the Boston College Alumni Association, the United States Seagoing Marine Association and a 30 year member of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
