Obituary

Betty Lou Bardon-Hatamosa, 85, of Ventura entered peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday night, June 29, 2016 surrounded by her dear friends and family. Betty spent the days prior laughing, singing, dancing and enjoying herself with her friends; then she left this life to carry on in Heaven.

Betty was born February 1, 1931 in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. She grew up on the small island of Siquiquor in the Philippines, where she helped to raise her many siblings. As a young woman, she returned to Hawaii for a period, then moved to California where she helped with household chores and looking after her nieces and nephews. She worked hard in the fields picking carrots, tomatoes and other crops to put herself through nursing school. She worked as a nurse assistant for 31 years at Community Memorial Hospital, and was very well loved among the hospital staff and patients.

After retirement, Betty continually kept busy with many jobs and hobbies, including work as a home care assistant. In 1997 she married the love of her life, Roberto (Bob) “Bing” Hatamosa, from Cebu, Philippines, and enjoyed ten lovely years with Roberto.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and an active volunteer with the Italian Catholic Federation and the California Women for Agriculture.

Betty loved music and was always ready to sing and dance. She played ukulele and sang with Betty Day's Group, Maile's Ukulele Ohana and the Ukulele Club of Ventura County. She was still actively singing and playing with the Wilson Strummers and Singers (Wilson Senior Center, Oxnard). Betty had a lovely soprano voice and a great ukulele strum!

Betty touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with and always had a smile and helping hand for everyone. She loved sharing a good laugh or funny story with friends. Betty was everyone's best friend. Her friends were precious treasures to her, and she to them.

Betty had an almost mystical power to nurture and heal, which was made known while she worked as a masseuse and shared her many natural remedies. Her cooking skills were phenomenal, with love put into every dish. Gardening came naturally to Betty and she created a lush, tropical paradise in our dry so cal climate. Betty brought beauty to many events with her flower business, decorating for weddings, parties and offices.
Betty loved being outdoors. She was an avid water skier, scuba diver, jet skier, paddler, and enjoyed snorkeling, camping and all water sports. She was a member of the Sports Massage Group.

Betty is survived by dear family and friends, who will miss her more than words can say. It was important to Betty to stay connected with her family and she would frequently travel to the Philippines, Hawaii and Manteca to visit.

This world has lost a simple, yet amazing woman, but there is a new angel in heaven looking over us. Betty is not far from us; she continues to work her magic and it is incredible and humbling. She leaves us her legacy of integrity, community, kindness and love. Combined, that immaterial wealth of how to live a pure life is what her family and her friends are gifted with. Betty, we love you. Betty, we thank you. We will live in your light and honor you every day.

Friends are invited to visit from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 East Main Street, Ventura.
