Sonya Linda Arena
Augusta, GA – Sonya Linda Arena, age 54, entered into rest on June 27, 2016. She was born on January 6, 1962, to John William Arena, Sr. and Viktoria Goetschl Arena in Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Sonya was preceded in death by her father: John William Arena, Sr.; her mother: Viktoria Goetschl Arena; brother: Martin Michael Goetschl. She is survived by her husband: George Steven Fernandes; step-son: Charles S. Fernandes (Cicely); step-daughter: Jessica LeNora Smith; brother: John William Arena, Jr. (Kathryn); sister: Heidi Goetschl Truluck; sister-in-law: Gabriela Skibbe Goetschl; nieces: Charlotte Elizabeth Arena, Cindy Truluck Arcia (Richard), Michelle Truluck Stark (Jim), Christina Marie Young (Stacy), and nephews: John William Arena, III, Martin Michael Goetschl, Jr. (Carol) and John Christopher Goetschl (Amy).
After graduating from Evans High School, she attended the University of Georgia School Of Hair Design and received a cosmetology certificate. She practiced cosmetology in Georgia and North Carolina for 30 years.
Sonya was a very generous person; she always put others before herself. She was an animal advocate and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be Friday, July 1, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son.
