Betty Joyce Jackson Whitley, 82, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church, in Irwin County, with the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Whitley was born May 8, 1934, in Tift County, Georgia, to the late James Eddie Jackson, Sr. & Ida McMillan Jackson. Mrs. Whitley retired from Sunny Dale Training Center, in Ocilla, Georgia, after 25 years of service. She was devoted to her work and worked in several different areas. Mrs. Whitley loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them and cherished her precious memories of her grandchildren and great-grand children. She was a member of the Old Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Wayne Whitley & Theresa of Fitzgerald, Eddie Whitley of Fitzgerald, Dennis Whitley of Irwin County, Tim Whitley & Gail of Irwin County, Pam Whitley Gordon & Mike of Fitzgerald, Myra Whitley Taylor & Danny of Putnam County, Tracey Whitley Leverett & James of Ocilla; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister: Dolly Ann Stone of Nashville and a sister-in-law: Wylene Jackson of Tifton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Forrest Whitley; three sisters; one brother; a granddaughter and a great grand daughter.
