The Rev. Smith David “Junior” Gentry, 82, of Tifton, Georgia, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2016, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Josh Campbell, the Rev. Corey Thompson and the Rev. Harris Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Gentry was born April 22, 1934, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Smith Dewey & Geneva Fowler Gentry. He served his country honorable in the United States Army. Mr. Gentry was a John Deere “parts man” for the Fitzgerald, Ocilla and Douglas areas. Mr. Gentry was a Baptist minister for over 45 years, with the Lax Baptist Church being his last church to serve.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Peggy Walker Gentry of Tifton; two sons: Chris Gentry and his wife Rhonda of Warwick and Mark Gentry and his wife Debra of Douglas; four grandchildren: Katie James, Kristen Gentry, Andrew Gentry and Alex Gentry; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Beatrice G. Brinkley of Tifton and Mildred G. Hipps of Baconton. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one brother and a sister.
