Everett spent his formative years in Fall River and several years in Framingham. He graduated Cum Laude from the Classical Course of Monsignor James Coyle High School in Taunton and received his BA on Philosophy/ Theology from St. John’s Seminary in Brighton. Everett received his Masters Degree in Mathematics from Notre Dame University.
In his earlier years, he was a sports writer for the Fall River Herald News and taught mathematics in Miami and Hialeah, FL and in Newton for several years. In 1971, he began his dedicated career with the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) as an Assistant Director and established the first Northeast Office in Peabody and then became the Director. In the early 1970’s, in the heyday of collective bargaining for public employees, especially teachers, he relished his role as both a negotiator and advocate. He and his staff enjoyed a reputation for aggressive advocacy on the part of the MTA”s members. Everett retired in 1992 from the MTA and when asked what he would do in retirement, he indicated that he would have enjoyed writing a book on the philosophical underpinnings of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. He has a wonderful mind, read voraciously and retained nearly everything. He loved all sports especially college and professional teams and followed them with keen interest. He was an avid runner and worked out with weights on a daily basis. His greatest accomplishment in his life as he stated so very often was the love and devotion he had for his children, grandchildren and family who were the center of his whole life. He will be remembered kindly for his sense of humor.
