Obituary

Kenneth A. Sleiertin’s restless soul returned to his Creator on Sunday afternoon 8 May 2016 while in the city of Ventura, California, where he was residing. Kenneth was 49 years old. He was born on Long Island at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY, on 27 October 1967 and was the third of four children of Barbara Ann Sleiertin and Robert A. Sleiertin. He was the brother of Dan, Stephan and Diana and lived the first seven years of his life in West Hempstead, NY.

The Sleiertin family moved to Newport, RI in 1974, where Kenneth attended Rogers High School as a member of the class of 1984. After High School he worked in the Newport area as a residential construction carpenter and also as an auto mechanic. In subsequent years his “wanderlust” compelled him to travel to and work in the states of Washington, Florida, Texas and finally to Ventura, California, where his brother Dan had relocated several years earlier. Kenneth was pre-deceased by his mother Barbara and is survived by his father, brother Dan, sister Diana and nephew Zachary.

Kenneth had his foibles and personal issues, as we all do, but he was typically a very pleasant, jovial and inherently helpful person and rarely, if ever, mean-spirited toward anyone. During his past several years in the Ventura area he became interested in working with, living with and trying to help people who inhabit the various “transient/homeless camps” in the Ventura area.

A Memorial Mass has been scheduled for Kenneth at The Old Mission San Buenaventura RC Church (211 East Main Street), Ventura at 7:30 AM on Saturday, 17 Sept 2016.
