Obituary

Carver - Thomas S. Butterfield 88, of Carver, died Thursday June 23 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Shirley (Westberg) Butterfield.

Born in Roberts, Wisconsin and raised in Hanson he was the son of the late Manley and Norma (Reinhart) Butterfield.

Tom was a Veteran of the US Army having served from 1945-1947 and earning a WWII Victory Medal and an Army Occupation Medal Japan for his service.

Prior to his move to Carver thirty five years ago he had been a longtime resident of Hanson, where he and his wife Shirley had raised their three children.

Before retiring, he had worked over 25 years in the maintenance department for Stop & Shop.

He had enjoyed being outdoors and yardwork, and was known for his masonry talents which were reflected around his beautiful home. He also treasured the times surrounded by his large family and following the countless activities of his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his loving children Karen Forbes and her husband Thomas of Hanson, Ronald Butterfield and his wife Joan of Whitman and Robert Butterfield of Norton and his sister Barbara Danner and her husband Wilber of Hanson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Shannon and Brian Wright, Bridget Forbes, Sean Forbes, Kasey and Nick Sealey, Kalyn and Jamie Lydon, Shane and Amy Butterfield, Jill and Brian McQuirk, Ryan Butterfield, Brynne and Mark Wills and Cara Butterfield as well as seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Butterfield, Jr. his daughter-in-law Nancy Butterfield, his sisters Priscilla Butterfield, Irene Garbitt and Beverly Searle, and his brothers Roy, Wayne and Manley Butterfield.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday June 29 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday June 28 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
