George C. “Clem” Nadeau, age 85, passed away on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at home. He was born on Nov. 21, 1930 in Springfield. George was the son of the late Leo A. and Marie O. (Benoit) Nadeau. He was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church, formerly St. Mary's where he worked Bingo for many years and was a former President of the Mens Club. He was a graduate of the former Springfield Technical High School. He was the owner of East Springfield Fence Company for over 30 years. He was a member of the Springfield Fire Department for 32 years retiring as District Chief on June 14, 1988. He was a member of the Air National Guard for 2 years and was a past member of the Springfield Lions Club. He met his wife Eileen while they both were employed at American Bosch. He spent many years building his summer home which he enjoyed at Little Alum Lake in Brimfield living in close proximity to his sister Marie and the Benoit clan who also had cottages there. He and his wife spent many winters in Fort Myers Beach, FL. He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eileen (Murphy) Nadeau, who passed away on March 28, 2014. He leaves his 2 daughters, Ann Marie Balboni and her husband Stephen of Springfield and Bettina M. Nadeau of Brimfield; his son Joseph Nadeau and his wife Sarah of Chicopee. Four grandchildren, Nichol Balboni, Stephanie Cuoco, Timothy Haggerty and Rachel Nadeau; 4 great grandchildren, Chelsea Duffany, Logan Cuoco, Charlee-Ann Duffany and Parker Cuoco along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings Ronald, Herlan, Marie Gatti, Bettina and Louise Nadeau. Calling hours will be held on Mon., June 27, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Tues., June 28, 2016 at 9 am from the Grise Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Mother of Hope Church at 10 am with burial to follow in St Patrick Cemetery.
