Obituary

Salvatore J. Spadaro, 90, of New Bedford, died Tuesday June 21, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Rosa (Angelini) Spadaro and the late Rena (Rapoza) Spadaro.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Gianni and Rosa (Bianco) Spadaro, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Mr. Spadaro was formerly employed as a chemical operator at the Polaroid Corporation until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Canberra. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 6 stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Sons of Italy.

He is survived by two children, Nancy L. Horton and her husband Ronald, and Salvatore J. Spadaro, Jr. and his wife Janiene, all of New Bedford; a brother, Vincent "Jimmy" Spadaro of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Rose Facchini, Rachel Spadaro, Jillian Spadaro and Antone Alfonso III; three great-grandchildren, Paul Alfonso, Bridget Alfonso, and Antone Alfonso IV; four Godchildren, Rose Stearns, Catherine Mello, Jerry Angelini, and Vincent Angelini; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Rose Alfonso, brother of the late Constance Dupuis, Angie Limoges, and Jennie Lincourt, and Godfather of the late Peter Colangelo.

A private Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
