Obituary

John J. Coyne, 88, of Westport died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence after a long illness. He was husband of the late Joan (Sykes) Coyne, to whom he was married for 50 years.

Born in Quincy, MA, son of the late Michael and Delia (Ferrick) Coyne, he had lived in Weymouth for 50 years prior to moving to Westport in 2007. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was an electrical engineer for Stone and Webster in Boston until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Coyne was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. He had been a scout master with Troop #1399 in Weymouth and was involved with the Weymouth Little League. John also enjoyed fishing , but most of all he was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include 7 children: Kevin R. Coyne (Stephen Thomas), Brian M. Coyne (Cathy), Thomas W. Coyne, Kathleen A. Fiorillo (Robert), Russell J. Coyne, Joanne M. Coyne and Janice M. Carrigg (Paul); 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Philip Coyne, Helen Belanger and Virginia Gayton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Toni Taylor, Rebecca Oliveira and Tiverton Dialysis Center for their loving care of Mr. Coyne during his illness.

Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, June 25, 2016 at St. George Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.

Burial will be private.
