Geraldine McGee Vernon, 69, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, June 24, 2016, at Christian Fellowship, with the Rev. Rex Johnson and the Rev. Joey Whitley officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Vernon was born November 18, 1946, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late G.W. & Ava Nell Fender McGee. She lived in the community most of her life and attended Irwin County Schools. She worked for the USDA as a peanut grader and also as a packer for the Target Distribution Center in Tifton. Mrs. Vernon was a member of Christian Fellowship (CFI).
She is survived by her husband: Bobby Vernon of Irwin County; three sons: Rusty & Jill Johnson, Rex & Pam Johnson and Shane & Kristy Johnson, all of Irwin County; step-children: Sylvia & Floyd Pate of Americus, Edward & Cris Vernon of Palm Harbor, Florida, Betty & Irvin Cloud of Albany, and Debra & Sonny McGee of Leesburg; six grandchildren: Cody Johnson, Chet & Sara Johnson, Katy Johnson, Eli Johnson, Gunnar Johnson, and Grayson Johnson; 14 step-grandchildren, and three sisters: Helen & Wendell Marchant, Shirley & Bud Johnson, and Rita Newell, all of Irwin County. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Wesley McGee and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Newell.
