Obituary

Roger E. Hughes was born July 25, 1962 in Boston, MA, the second oldest of Darlene Bowman's five children. Roger grew up in Bromley Heath - Jamaica Plain, MA. He attended Boston Public School, as well as, The Highland Park Free School in Roxbury, MA. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1981 and obtained a degree in computer programming. He later joined The United Brotherhood of Carpenters in Boston, MA. While a member of Carpenters Local Union 40 in Cambridge, MA, he achieved the status of journeyman. Roger was an avid lover of sports - especially basketball, baseball and football - during his hospitalization, he was able to share the last game of the 2016 NBA championship season (Cleveland, Cavailiers vs. Golden State, Warriors) with his son, Keilan at his bedside. He was also a lover of music - he loved to dance to it, sing to it, create rhythms and beats to it and write it. Roger was humorous, serious, sensitive, persistent, straight forward, strong-willed and determined. He was someone who loved his ability to do things independently, and during his trials with cancer, he revealed how much of a fighter he truly was. On Monday, June 20, 2016 Roger passed away at the age of 53.
