Billie Faye Washington was born on August 19,1930 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late Hazel Brown and Thomas Stanberry. Billie had one brother, the late Kenneth Stanberry.
She quietly slipped away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Quincy, MA.
Billie received her elementary education in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1945 she came to Boston and completed her secondary education.
In 1951 Billie married the love of her life, the late William E. Washington Sr. From this union eight children were born.
Billie was employed at Polaroid for twenty years where she worked at the Cambridge and Norwood facilities. She held two positions - assembly line operator and a quality control operator. She also was employed at the Cable Raincoat Company in South Boston
Billie joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church family under the pastoral guidance of the late Reverend Doctor William S. Ravenell. She was a member for over 60 years. Her dedication led her to serve as a Trustee and a member of the Senior Usher Board. She was a member of the Women's Guild and the Pilgrim Progress Club. When the church had special programs, you could find Billie in the kitchen along with Inez Ashley, Evelyn Owens, Muriel Duncan and a number of other members making delicious dishes, pies and cakes.
Billie was an outstanding cook. She was known for her 'mac and cheese', meat loaf and her delicious gumbo. Not only was she a good cook, she was also a great baker. German Chocolate cake and Sweet Potato pies were among her favorites. It was not unusual for people to stop by during the holidays or on Sundays to have a good home cooked meal.
Billie leaves to mourn her eight children: Three daughters, JoAnn Washington, Hazel President, Mary Wilson; five sons: William Jr. (Jeannie), Johnny (Janet), David, Kenneth, Charles Sr. (Kim); fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Saturday, June 25th at the Ebenezer Baptist Church of the Holy Spirit, 157 West Springfield Street, Boston from 10-11 AM, Followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. The interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
