McDONNELL, John 81, of Dover, died peacefully on June 20, 2016 surrounded by his family, five years after melanoma diagnosis. He and his loving wife, Jean, have lived in Dover since they married 48 years ago.
John was a graduate of Boston College High School, Boston College, and MIT Sloan School. He was a founder of Abt Associates in Cambridge and retired from Hewlett Packard. He loved his church, music, gardening, vacationing with family, and dinner with friends. He was a member of the Dedham Country and Polo Club, and the Dover Foundation, from which he received their Lifetime Achievement Award.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his three children, Patrick of Montana, Michael and his wife Katie Noyes of Wyoming, and Lissa Chapin and her husband Billy of Hopkinton NH, his brother Tom of Maine and sister Mary Slavin of Natick, and his grandchildren, John and Sabrina McDonnell, and Will, Merrick, Lia, and Sam Chapin as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter Julie, and siblings Kathleen Miller of Wellesley, Joan Barnes of Duxbury and George McDonnell of Duxbury.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Sunday, June 26 from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass in Most Precious Blood Church, Dover, Monday, June 27 at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Dover.
